Rain Again, in Japan

My Neighbor Totoro

Japanese monsoons are a force to be reckoned with. I recently watched an episode of Japonology, a wonderful show that highlights the country’s cultural delights, entitled “Rain,” featuring the poor host (albeit with a lifesaving British accent) stuck inside a weather simulator room and buffeted every which way by strong wind and rain. After watching the man suffer, I will be sure to pack a sturdy umbrella, raincoat, and woolen socks just in case global warming decides on the spur of the moment that hot and meltingly humid summers in the Japanese countryside simply don’t belong anymore.
